The group stages of the Ateker cup of Nations climaxed today with Obucun of Kenya handing Kumi district its first loss of the Tournament by beating them 2-1.

The game was delayed a bit due to the long wait for the guest of honour, the S. Sudan’s state governor of Eastern Equatoria, Louis Lobong Lojore.

Obucum has now played four matches and has never lost any game, this means that Obucum tops the table with 12 points and Kumi comes second on ground C with 9 points after four matches played.

The two teams are set for the last 16 that will kick off on Thursday 20th August, and all the two sides are so promising in advancing into the later stages of the competition.

Obucum exercised full dominance over Kumi district, after they were able to capture midfield and made good build ups from the defence and it was further complemented by good and tactical runs from the wings.

Their dominance also came from physical superiority that was orchestrated by defense and midfield. Kumi couldn’t make the entertaining display and scoring goals as they used to make in the last Three fixtures.

Kumi tried to regroup in the second half after several substitutions in their midfield and the frontline but they could turn the results

The competition that has attracted 38 Men’s teams and 8 women’s teams is set to climax on Saturday 22nd of August 2026 in Soroti City.
