Soroti city meets to select a team that will represent in UPSSA national games.

Soroti city has finally kicked off its preparation to select a team of at least 64 players for the national Uganda Primary School Sports Association (UPSSA) games that will take place on the 23rd, August 2026 in Mubende district.

According to the UPSSA chairman of Soroti city Emmanuel Etieku, the Soroti city was divided into six zones that include Soroti city west A and B, East A and B then Soroti city Central A and B. All the zones are represented today.

“this year we decided to change the grouping a little bit because last year we only had Etolu and Odeke zone, but this year we have six zones. We decided to do this to have all the private schools participate and bet me ninety percent of them turned up.
“Last year we were in the 28th position nationally which was a good performance and we are going to do better.

“I Want to also assure the public of good performance after the zone engagement with 21 government aided schools and 163 private Schools.
“as a headteacher of Soroti demonstration primary school, we are happy because the ministry of education and sports has also invited us to Kenya for FEAASA U15 handball games because of our performance last. This is so special because in the entire country there are only six teams to represent Uganda.”

He also added that they are presenting athletes in handball U14, goal girls boys, volleyball both U12 and U14, Netball U12 and U14, Football U12 and U14 and volleyball in both U12 and U14 .

The chairperson Soroti city Central A zone, Akello Juliet Ruth said that they had good preparation in the city meet and are set to select the team for the nationals.
“I want to thank God and the senior game teachers at UPSSA for the great opportunity and organizing the games”
“I also want to express my gratitude to the team for the good vetting of teams, we have got the right children for the right activities in netball, handball, volleyball and football. At least I am sure that we are going to come with the trophy in the national”. Akello in an interview with eritei sports.

Okalebo Jorem, a teacher of soroti demonstration and Zone chairman of and Soroti city Central said that he is very happy to meet other zones in the city and they are ready to compete.
“We are prepared enough as we welcome competent teams ready to compete in all disciplines”. Okalebo noted

The excitement builds for Soroti city after completing in the 28th position last year in the national as they now select athletes to represent the City.
